In the city of Iquitos, the floating neighborhood of Belén in the Peruvian Amazon faces critical infrastructure issues, such as a lack of basic supplies and flooding during the rainy season. Despite over 150 years of existence, these challenges persist. The river, crucial to local culture and economy, is vital for residents, many of whom are traders relying on it. A project aims to address these issues by building a community center that strengthens local social structures, including groups like JOABE dedicated to improving the neighborhood. The initiative, developed in collaboration with the community, proposes a technical, innovative and sustainable solution for flooding. This community center, constructed with local involvement, will benefit not only JOABE and the community but also presents a replicable solution to enhance living conditions in the Belén neighborhood. Active participation of residents is crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the project.
